Welcome to the Laptops for Learning Program: Teachers as 21st Century Educators
In what ways do 21st Century Learners acquire or gain skill or knowledge?
What types of teaching methods will we employ with them?
Let's brainstorm ways to meet the challenges.
(Keynote with intro, movie, and summary of video ideas available:** Summary Ideas for 21st Century Learners Video) Mindmeister shared map
Students keep laptops with them at all times or place it in a locked locker or a cabinet (Art and P.E.).
Passing periods... time management
Student computer problems: Help is available during Advisory or before/after school; try not to send them during class periods.
Liz, Paula and Matt offices accessible through the Library
Technical Assistance: Please do not email Matt for technical assistance. Vern has asked that you email Liz. We will look over help requests and send those to Matt that we need him to handle. We do not want Matt stopped in the halls or pulled off task. He still has large projects to finish that affect many users.
Consequences for damage: Loaner laptop -> loss of overnight privileges -> use desktop computer in classroom -> loss of all privileges
Student behavior issues - how will your team deal with these?
During Advisory the laptops are not to be used to entertain the students.
Bandwidth Issues: YouTube, TeacherTube, GoogleEarth, Streaming music and video
Students need to be reminded that they must be responsible for their use of their laptop and the network.
What is on your students' computers? Review programs
Internet Safety Lessons: Please look this over and decide who will be teaching this to students. It is mandated by the State of Illinois that all students will be part of an Internet Safety class. It is important that students complete these lessons at the beginning of the year so that we are all on the same page as the year progresses.
